18kVA of Three Phase Power for Sites That Cannot Stop
When a site runs on three-phase equipment, an outage is not an inconvenience, it is a stopped job. Compressors, chillers, pumps and workshop machinery all sit idle and so does everyone waiting on them.
The Kubota KJ-T180 delivers 18kVA of three-phase power at 415 volts, 25 amps per phase, from a Kubota V2203 four-cylinder diesel running at 1500rpm. It also gives 240 volts single phase from the same machine, so site lighting and hand tools run off it too.
Why 18kVA Is the Practical Working Size
Eighteen kilovolt-amps is the size most working sites actually land on. It carries a three-phase compressor or chiller with enough headroom for the surge when it starts, while still running the lighting, the site office and the hand tools alongside.
The V2203 is a four-cylinder water-cooled diesel rated at 16.9kW continuous. At 1500rpm it turns at half the speed of a portable generator, which is why it will do this day after day rather than for a season.
Built for Commercial Duty
At 505 kilograms this is a machine that stays put, with forklift access and lifting points for when it moves between sites. The cabinet is weatherproof and the control panel door locks.
The Deep Sea DSE4520 digital control panel gives full engine and alternator monitoring, an hour counter for service scheduling and two-wire remote start for automatic changeover. The 37 litre tank runs seven hours at full load.
The alternator is revolving field, self-excited and brushless with Class H insulation, holding voltage regulation to 3.5 percent from no load to full load. That stability is what keeps motors and electronics happy on the same circuit.
Safety and Protection as Standard
The KJ series carries a comprehensive shutdown system as standard. The engine stops on abnormal oil pressure or water temperature, on low fuel, on alternator charge failure and on over or under voltage, frequency, current or power.
It also shuts down if the engine room door is opened or the load centre cover is removed while running. There is an emergency stop button on the outside of the cabinet.

Is the KJ-T180 the Right Size for You?
Sizing a three phase generator comes down to starting current. Motors draw several times their rated current at the moment they start, so the surge decides the machine, not the running load.
At 18kVA the KJ-T180 suits a working workshop, a commercial site with a three-phase compressor or chiller, an irrigation or pumping setup or a small manufacturing operation. If your loads are lighter the KJ-T130 gives 12.5kVA. If they are heavier, the KJ-T300 at 30kVA has the headroom.
